What is MOTS-C?

MOTS-C is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within a region of mitochondrial DNA. Researchers study it as a signalling molecule that helps connect mitochondrial activity with wider cellular metabolism.

Energy regulation and AMPK

In a foundational study, MOTS-C altered folate-related metabolism and purine synthesis, leading to accumulation of AICAR and activation of AMPK. AMPK acts as a cellular energy sensor, helping regulate how cells use and conserve fuel. The study also found effects on insulin sensitivity and metabolic regulation in mice, including protection against high-fat-diet-induced insulin resistance.

Muscle metabolism and exercise research

A later study examined MOTS-C in relation to skeletal-muscle metabolism, metabolic stress and physical performance. Administered MOTS-C improved physical capacity in young, middle-aged and old mice. In a separate human exercise component, naturally occurring MOTS-C increased in muscle and circulation after exercise. This human observation concerns the body's own peptide response and does not demonstrate the effects of administering this product.

Research applications

Key areas of interest include mitochondrial-to-cell signalling, AMPK-related energy regulation, glucose metabolism, muscle adaptation and age-related changes in physical capacity. These studies provide a basis for controlled laboratory investigation; they do not establish a one-month treatment protocol or guaranteed effects from this four-vial bundle.
